Dialogue session on “Political Participation of Women in Pakistan”
BNBWU Sukkur, in collaboration with the Youth Advocates for Democracy, hosted an engaging dialogue session titled “Political Participation of Women in Pakistan” On November 28, 2024.
In her keynote address, Prof. Dr. Tehmina Nangraj, Vice Chancellor of Begum Nusrat Bhutto Women University, shed light on the critical role of gender inclusiveness in fostering national progress. She emphasized that the active participation of women in politics is not just a matter of representation but a necessity for sustainable development in Pakistan. She elaborated on how women bring unique perspectives and solutions to the table, ensuring that policies address the needs of all sections of society. She urged the participants, particularly the students, to challenge societal norms that hinder women’s political engagement and to advocate for equitable opportunities in leadership and decision-making roles. Her address served as an inspiring call to action for women to rise above barriers and contribute to the political landscape of the country.
The discussion was moderated by Dr. Nabiha Arain, a lecturer in physical therapy. The panel featured distinguished speakers, including Mrs. Shaista Baloch, a former Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Sindh, Mrs. Safia Baloch, a senior politician from Sukkur, Ms. Gul Rukh, a social media activist and young political advocate. Adding an academic perspective, Ms. Rida Siddiqui, a lecturer in biotechnology, spoke about the role of education in dismantling societal barriers to women’s political participation.
