BNBWU Observes International Breastfeeding Week with Seminar on “Breastfeeding: A Healthy Kick Start”

𝐁𝐍𝐁𝐖𝐔 𝐎𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐧 “𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐀 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐊𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭”

The continuous vision of Worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Tehmina Nangraj, to bring initiatives that empower students as direct stakeholders and true agents of change in the community, has been pivotal in shaping the academic and social environment of Begum Nusrat Bhutto Women University, Sukkur.

In this spirit, BNBWU in collaboration with MERF, SPO and RDO, organized a seminar on “Breastfeeding: A Healthy Kick Start” on September 01, 2025. The seminar aimed to create awareness about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, complimentary feeding up to two years, and the long-term health benefits for both mother and child.

Dr. Sayeda Ameena Haider delivered the plenary talk on “Breastfeeding: Building Bonds, Boosting Health.” A panel discussion was held featuring Ms. Sana Malik ( Principal of Riverside Community High School Rohri)

Shazia Abbasi from Nari Foundation ( As Working Mother) moderated by Prof. Dr. Shafee Wassan ( Chairman of community medicine department of CMC & GMMMC). The discussion highlighted the Sindh Breastfeeding Act, role of workplaces, maternity leave, and community engagement.

Partner organizations including HWA Foundation appreciated the efforts of BNBWU for hosting such a significant seminar and commended the involvement of students in learning about pressing health issues.

In her closing remarks, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tehmina Nangraj said that she always wanted to organize such a seminar for students as they are the direct stakeholders and the true agents of change in the community. She reiterated that sensitizing young women on such vital health issues is empowerment in its true sense, enabling them to play a meaningful role in society as future mothers, professionals, and leaders.

The seminar concluded with remarks from partner organizations and a joint commitment to continue advocacy for healthier families and communities
