A Milestone Initiative under EU-Funded Project Implemented by the International Rescue Committee (IRC)
Under the visionary leadership of Prof. Dr. Tehmina Nangraj, Vice Chancellor, Begum Nusrat Bhutto Women University (BNBWU), Sukkur, the Nutrition Innovation Center (NIC) โ the first of its kind in Pakistan โ was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Tehmina Mangan on 20th October 2025.
The Center has been established under the European Union-funded project โStrengthening Local Civil Society and Community-based Organisations and their Capacity in the Nutrition Sector in Sindhโ, implemented by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in partnership with Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) and MERF.
The Nutrition Innovation Center will serve as a hub for innovation and research in the field of nutrition, opening new pathways for research, knowledge sharing, and collaboration with national and international organizations. The Center aims to contribute toward addressing the growing issue of malnutrition in Sindh, particularly in marginalized and underserved communities.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Dr. Rano Mal, Mr. Shakeel Patrus, Mr Ammar Zafarullah, Mr. Fayaz (IRC), Mr. Ghulam Nabi (HWA Foundation), Mr. Khadim Hussain (BSWA), Mr. Munawar Masih, and Mr. Nadeem (RDO), who shared their expert insights and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing nutrition-focused research and community empowerment.
In his key remarks, Dr. Rano Mal highlighted the journey of the project and the importance of establishing the Nutrition Innovation Center. He also appreciated the leadership of Prof. Dr. Tehmina Nangraj for making this vision a reality.
Addressing the audience, Prof. Dr. Tehmina Nangraj expressed gratitude to IRC and all collaborating partners for this meaningful initiative. She also appreciated Dr. Noor Ahmed Brohi for his dedication and efforts in the successful execution of the project. Prof. Dr. Tehmina encouraged students and faculty to actively utilize the facility, develop innovative research proposals, and assured that the University would provide seed funding to support promising ideas. She also emphasized the urgent need to address malnutrition in Sindh, especially among disadvantaged communities.
The inauguration of the Nutrition Innovation Center marks another remarkable achievement under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Dr. Tehmina Nangraj, reflecting BNBWUโs unwavering commitment to research, innovation, and women empowerment for a healthier and more inclusive future.
